AVON YOUTH LEAGUE U’16 DIV 2

LONGWELL GREEN     4

FRY CLUB COLTS        1

We came into todays game full of confidence and unbeaten in 3 games. However, the game proved far more difficult than we anticipated.

Despite once again conceeding possession from our kick off and giving a half chance to L Green to score in the first minute, it was a forced error by the Green defence that gave Lewis Watt the chance to rob the defender and slot the ball past their keeper to put us 1-0 up after 2 mins. A further good run down the left by Kyle Curtis led to our first corner of the match and from the resulting kick James Boultons header was just saved by the Green keeper. However, we couldn’t capitalize on this early advantage as Green came back by forcing mistakes and putting pressure across the pitch in every area. This led to the equalizer on 17 mins as a defensive mistake and clearance to the Green striker put them back 1-1. 5 minutes later they were through again only to see the shot come back off the post but this was soon forgotten as we made another error which saw their shot creep under Craig Francis body into the net. It was soon 3-1 down as a L Green free kick found the net and we were really struggling to cope.

Changes to players and formation at half time were enforced as we looked to get back into the game as quickly as possible. A good pass from Brad Monelle to Nathan Dawson gave Nathan a chance to shoot but his shot went over the bar. Another good run by Lewis Watt was made as he tricked his way to a chance on goal but his early shot was this time saved by the keeper. Brad Monelle had one further chance but his volley from a throw in went wide. Although we forced the play into the Green half, it was inevitable gaps would be left at the back and this was punished near the end of the match as Green scored a 4th to give them a very flattering scoreline of 4-1.

This was such a disappointing performance and result in view of our current form but proves we have to stay focused as games are not won just because we may have played well last week.

There were not many positive performances today but one player that managed to continue his good run of form was today's goalscorer Lewis Watt who was awarded Man of the Match.
